Islamic Tourism Centre of Malaysia and Tourism Malaysia, government agencies under umbrella of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia, in conjunction with Sarajevo Halal Fair (SHF) 2019, have organized a seminar on tourism in Sarajevo.
The seminar was attended by representatives of travel agencies, halal-certified hotels and restaurants from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Such an event was organized for the first time in Bosnia and Herzegovina and was a unique opportunity to get familiar with Malaysia as a Muslim-friendly country. In addition, it was a good opportunity for tourism stakeholders to exchange experiences and establish cooperation between tourism professionals. YBhg Dato Sri Abdul Khani Daud, Director General of the Islamic Tourism Centre conveyed the profuse experience that Malaysia has in the field of halal tourism. YBhg Dato Sri pointed out that halal tourism has many potentials, but also faces many challenges.
"There are currently 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide, of which 255 million are in Asia. A large number of them have visited Bosnia and Herzegovina, had a great experience which motivate them to come to Bosnia and Herzegovina again. Muslim tourists are commonly fascinated with Muslim-friendly services, attractions, events and infrastructure. Muslim tourists want halal hotels and restaurants, to visit Islamic attractions such as mosques, museums, parks, events such as conferences and seminars, or to organize joint iftars with local people. Bosnia and Herzegovina has a lot of potentials in this field and we are ready to help to develop it“, said YBhg Dato Sri Abdul Khani Daud.
